Week 1: Living Things

 This week, we spent the majority of the class time focusing on what was living verses nonliving. We investigated this idea by sorting through pictures of the items and deciding whether they were living or not. We sorted them into groups individually first, then working with table groups, and finally comparing with a different table group. Once we came to a consensus, we discussed it as a class. We started coming up with characteristics on what makes an item living. The characteristic that we found most helpful was ability to reproduce and having a metabolism. We were able to agree on all of the items on whether they were living or nonliving. I still am question on if a fruit or leaf off of the plant is considered a living organism or if it is considered nonliving.
